27/05/2008 - Argos Direct achieves ISO 14001

News Story Photo

Argos Direct's Marsh Leys Distribution Centre (DC) has gained the Internationally recognised environmental management standard ISO 14001. This top award is in recognition of its work in managing waste, recycling and energy consumption effectively.

Marsh Leys DC  started the programme of work in February and were delighted to achieve recognition in July. Delivery service manager, Terry Warburton, said that receiving the accreditation was a "fantastic achievement."

Gaining ISO 14001 in just four months means the DC has saved 50 per cent of the accreditation budget and won glowing praise from the official assessor, who commented: "The awareness and commitment of everyone on site to not only achieve the award but to continue making improvements and reducing the operation's environmental impact was clearly visible."

Notes to Editors

The British Accreditation Bureau is the leading certification body for accrediting people, services and organisations. Our reputation was established in 1965 as a division of Salford University Business Services. In 1997, the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry approved the use of the word ‘British’ in our new corporate title (The British Accreditation Bureau), in recognition of our pre-eminent status.

Today, our core business is the accreditation of people, services and organisations. We certify organisations to the latest ISO standards and design and manage bespoke accreditation schemes. Such schemes are based on the establishment of standards, which can be developed to be recognised company-wide, industry-wide, nationally or internationally.
